Protecting PERA
PRSEA/CSPERA is dedicated to protecting PERA and your pension and helping to organize action on behalf of retirees.
We focus on education, communication and action.
What is PERA
PERA is the defined benefit plan for retired Colorado public employees where benefits…
-
Are set for life and cannot be outlived (unlike a 401k)
-
May increase from year to year
-
Derive from funds managed at very low cost by the volunteer PERA Board and nonprofit PERA staff, all in service to retirees
Legislative Process
PERA was created by a legislative process, which can be (and has been) changed by that process. PRSEA/CSPERA membership supports a professional lobbyist and a coordinated effort with the other 16 local units in Colorado, informing and working with many legislators on your behalf, and protecting the current plan.
Virtually every year, persons and organizations develop legislation to negatively alter PERA, or change it to a defined contribution plan such as a 401k, where benefits vary and there is the possibility of funds running out.

Also known as the Colorado Coalition for Retirement Security, this coalition is funded by 9 member retirement groups, including CSPERA. It advocates for policies that protect and improve PERA’s fiscal stability, and opposes legislation that negatively impacts our retirement security. A hired lobbyist represents our views on legislation, provides legislative updates as well as information you need to advocate personally.
